WHY I (virtually) RIDE
As a proud member of the Emerging Leaders Board for Raising a Reader (Massachusetts), I am thrilled to be participating in the Rodman Ride for the second year!
Raising a Reader MA is a nonprofit based in the Boston area dedicated to closing the literacy opportunity gap in high-need communities. I am lucky to have grown up in an environment surrounded by books - and I recognize the value and privilege that my early childhood education has provided me throughout my life. It has also inspired my passion for reading - and for Raising a Reader.
Evidence shows that early language experiences influence a child's life from kindergarten readiness, to high school graduation, to adult success. From our Executive Director: In light of recent events which are increasing stressors in our country, our state, and in our cities, one thing is clear: now more than ever we need to reinforce the need for reading. The divide in the literacy opportunity gap has become even more evident.
RAR-MA's vision is to make interactive reading a
joyful and rewarding routine for all families. We equip parents to be their child’s first teacher, empowered to be active participants in their child’s education, impacting success in school and beyond.
HOW I (virtually) RIDE ... I READ
In an effort to allow as many “riders” as possible in the times of COVID-19, the Rodman Ride (which is typically an actual bike ride on a fall day in September) is now a bit metaphorical - how literary, right? In lieu of an actual in-person ride, I commit to reading 1,500 pages ($1,500???) by September 25.
